Amie Street – Music Downloads

Readers of the site should know I’m a big fan of music. Since I work on a computer all day, I normally have time to play hundreds of tunes from my pc or stream some over the internets (right now I’m listening to m83 on free.napster.com). I have an iPod that I use in the car and I also burn mp3 cd’s to take in our sonata. This is great of course, but music can get pretty expensive pretty quickly. iTunes sells cd’s for $9.99, brick & mortar stores sell them $12+, and of course there is the free torrents/p2p file sharing… but let’s say you want to legally get mp3′s on the cheap through the web.

Let me introduce you to Amie Street. I’ve been using this site for a few months, and I can’t believe I haven’t given it a mention here. Amie Street has a different idea about selling music than all of the others I’ve found. All tracks start out free. That’s right, free! The first person who downloads it gets it for free. The second person pays a few cents to download it, the next person pays a few more… so on and so forth. The more the track is downloaded the more expensive it will become, but don’t worry it’s capped and won’t exceed a dollar.

I’ve purchased many full albums from the site for less than $5 which is ridiculous, and a bunch of bands I’ve never heard of for free. Plus, if you pay attention you can double your money with deals. Today they’re running a deal where you put in $10 and get $20. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me.

If you catch new releases right, you can get it for a few bucks or even free. There is a ton of bands that I love on Amie Street that haven’t sold a ton of music, which is great for you (not so much them) so go ahead and expand your collection already!
